Ziongate is a futuristic club night guided by electronic riddims from the motherland. In a world where people are overexposed to media, politics, and social pressure, Ziongate creates an alternative future. A world where the connection of the community rises above the individual. Zion is the last place where humans are truly free.

This edition is part of the AFRICADELIC programme and afterparty.

Line-up

DJ Nigga Fox (PT)

With his 'O Meu Estilo' 12'' EP debut release in 2013, DJ Nigga Fox crashed the gates with visionary music as part of Lisbon's Principe Discos crew who have been showing an exciting youth and sonic culture nurtured out of the Portuguese capital urban and suburban areas into an EU widespread diaspora. With a slew of notable releases afterwards, the artist has been trailing the globe with gigs at clubs and festivals at the cutting edge of electronic music.

Menzi (SA)

Menzi hails from the Umlazi township of Durban, rising to prominence as one half of Gqom pioneers, Infamous Boiz, whose influence is now felt shuddering from speakers in clubs across the world. Aside from producing, Menzi also runs the annual Gqom Bloq party, Festive Road Block Umlazi, supplying beats for some of South Africa’s biggest acts (Moonchild Sanelly, Mahotella Queens, Zolani Mahola and Zakes Bantwini).

Daring to mess with the machinery of Gqom’s sharply defined style, Menzi opens it up with cyperpunk-cinematic sound design and searing synth dynamics to invoke and unleash the sound’s darker side, his debut EP on Hakuna Kulala (2020) receiving critical acclaim.

Charisse C (UK)

NTS & No Signal resident Charisse C is a UK-based tastemaker rooted in her Zimbabwean and South African heritage. Her selections are curious, soulful and bass-heavy. With her sound, she spearheads South Africa's electronic soundscape, including, now global giants, Amapiano and Gqom. She describes herself as both a vessel and a storyteller.

Previously a Music Journalist, Charisse C's live performances and curated events are all part of an ever-evolving expression of her chosen mediums.

Prince Pasensi

Prince Pasensi is a DJ/Producer based in Amsterdam Southeast of Surinamese descent, creating a sound that blends his heritage with electronic music, drawing from styles such as Baile Funk, Batida, Techno, Highlife, and House. Growing up in Amsterdam Southeast, the most culturally diverse part of the city, he was surrounded by music from Ghana, the Dominican Republic, Suriname, Curacao, India and the USA.

Post-pandemic, Prince Pasensi took it upon himself to create and spin electronic dance and club music infused with Kawina and Kaseko. Coining the new style "KRIXYO", he pays homage to those at the root of music preserved by enslaved Africans in Suriname and across the diaspora.

Wes Lee

Wes Lee is the musical alter-ego of WaxFiend, one of Europe’s most sought after and respected DJs. Combining music from genres like hip-hop, danchehall, Afrobeat, house, soul, R&B and more, his unique sound and impressive career spans opening arena shows for artists inlcuding Rihanna, Young Thug, Kaytranada, SBTRKT, Kehlani & Sean Paul, alongside his residency at Encore, Holland's biggest weekly club night.

Behind the scenes, he is an active driving force behind 2 of Holland’s most respected platforms: Jamrock and Encore, alongside programming shows and nightlife events at Paradiso since 2020. Attuned to what’s next, he is currently curating a larger platform for South African electronic music in Amsterdam, with his Tribes and Ziongate events bringing some of SA’s most prolific artist’s to Amsterdam already.
