Every Friday, Parallel opens the doors to Terra: a new weekly club concept showcasing sounds from the global electronic underground. For this week's edition, Gqom pioneer Que DJ is joined by Amsterdam's own Deemz and Terra resident Wes Lee. Sounds on this night will traverse the spectrum of grime, Gqom, bass, and Afro-influenced electronic music.

Welcome to a new home ground in Amsterdam where sounds from the global diaspora collide and mutate with the western electronic sphere, creating new matter united by a percussive, bass-driven cohesion.

Together with a team of residents and weekly guests, Terra showcases constellation of Afro house, Amapiano, baile funk, batida, gqom, futuristic mutations of dancehall, reggaeton and many more under one roof any given week. Deemz

Deemz’s talent for curating the freshest gems, trappy 808s, and speaker-knocking kicks quickly elevated her status as a prominent figure in the Dutch hip-hop scene. Currently, Deemz is shifting her focus towards exploring the electronic music scene, experimenting with different genres, and discovering new, raw sounds. Her style can be described as a fusion of bass, garage, house, and grime, combined with experimental electronic sounds and Afro-diasporic influences. Despite this shift, she remains grounded in her musical roots, incorporating the sounds that have influenced her as a DJ.

Que DJ

Que is a young and talented Gqom producer, DJ and performer better known as the one half of the multi-award winning Gqom duo Distruction Boyz. He is a self-taught producer born and raised in KwaMashu a township in Durban, South Africa. And as a part of Distruction Boyz – renowned as the pioneers of the Gqom genre and hitmakers of their breakout single titled “Omunye” - his contribution to Gqom includes working with artists such as DJ Maphorisa, Babes Wodumo, Busiswa, Rude Boyz and DJ Tira.

Having coined the popular term “We Don’t Play The Same Gqom” which has inspired the sound he plays & produces – Umkhunkulu. Umkhunkulu best described as a sub genre of Gqom, having hard core, hypnotic, heavy bass sounds.

Wes Lee

Wes Lee is the musical alter-ego of WaxFiend, one of Europe’s most sought after and respected DJs. Combining music from genres like hip-hop, danchehall, Afrobeat, house, soul, R&B and more, his unique sound and impressive career spans opening arena shows for artists inlcuding Rihanna, Young Thug, Kaytranada, SBTRKT, Kehlani & Sean Paul, alongside his residency at Encore, Holland's biggest weekly club night.

Behind the scenes, he is an active driving force behind 2 of Holland’s most respected platforms: Jamrock and Encore, alongside programming shows and nightlife events at Paradiso since 2020. Attuned to what’s next, he is currently curating a larger platform for South African electronic music in Amsterdam, with his Tribes and Ziongate events bringing some of SA’s most prolific artist’s to Amsterdam already.
