Meet producer and singer-songwriter Gemma Victoria Walker, also known as PinkPantheress. Over the past months the internet has been obsessed with her DIY sound, influenced by UK garage, drum and bass, breakbeat and 90's and 00's pop. Using all these different stimuli created something Walker describes as "new nostalgia". Music that is recognizable for many, while also unique and refreshing.
Some of her successful singles that you might have heard, like 'Pain', 'Break It Off' and 'Passion' were recorded and produced at 3 in the morning in her university halls. Walker eventually signed to UK record label Parlophone, where she then collectively released her DIY productions in the form of her first studio album: 'to hell with it'. A project that fully embraces this concept of new nostalgia in many different ways, while also maintaining her signature sound. Now, with more than a billion streams combined on Spotify, multiple charting songs and an undeniable social media influence, there's no getting around PinkPantheress. While she maintains an element of mystery with her persona, she will perform on April 16th at Parallel.
