Line-up

Karenn (live)

Blawan and Pariah's live and studio project Karenn first debuted its thundering kicks, shuffling percussion, and overdriven synths with the release of 2011's Untitled three-track EP before rounding out the decade with their playful, club-focused debut album Grapefruit Regret.

The British duo had already made names for themselves individually with releases on labels such as Hessle Audio, R&S, Hinge Finger, and Clone, before joining forces to create Karenn. Bringing together a hardware-only set-up, the pair recorded a number of live improvisations that would form the basis of their debut Untitled EP that appeared in 2011. Fine-tuning a full live set over the next year, Karenn chose London's Fabric nightclub to unleash their improvisational live techno debut. A second untitled EP appeared just a few months later and once again captured their intense live sound for posterity. Over the next couple of years, Blawan and Pariah issued one more Karenn EP in 2014, while each focused on their own career, with Pariah delivering his debut album, Here from Where We Are, for Houndstooth in 2018 and Blawan setting up his own label, Ternesc, to release a number of EPs and his debut album, 2018's Wet Will Always Dry.

In 2019, the pair returned to Blawan's Berlin studio to record a selection of new material, with the first results appearing on the EP Kind of Green. A few months later the duo dropped their debut album, the club-focused and unrelenting, techno-driven Grapefruit Regret.

Sandrien

Amsterdam’s Sandrien is known for her versatile take on techno. From deep and
atmospheric to high-energy breaks and acid; her dynamic track selection has made her a dance floor favourite in her hometown and beyond. With over twenty years in the game, there are hardly any iconic clubs and festivals Sandrien has not played. She has graced the stages of Lowlands Festival, Awakenings and Dekmantel in The Netherlands, Norway’s Monument, and Labyrinth in Japan, and the club booths of Berlin’s Berghain and Bassiani in Tbilisi.

In Amsterdam, she used to be a resident of De School and its predecessor Trouw. The latter was home to Sandrien’s own techno club nights Imprint, through which she hosted a variety of national and international artists including Ben Sims, DVS1, Marcel Dettman, Oscar Mulero, Peter van Hoesen, and Rødhåd. In addition, she was one of the founders of the city’s long-running LGBTQIA+ event series Is Burning.

For years, Sandrien spent her weekdays working in Amsterdam’s renowned record
stores Rush Hour and Killacutz. This speaks to the imagination of her incredible record collection and musical knowledge. Her extensive library is precisely why she’s a champion of playing longer DJ sets, during which she always manages to build a solid bridge between old-school techno, and adventurous fresh sounds. Sandrien’s experience and ability to adapt to any setting also shows in her love for playing back to-back with other artists, including Ben Sims, Steffi, and, recently, with DJ Nobu for Rainbow Disco Club 2022. Occasionally, she likes to give the more house-leaning part of her collection a spin; high energy and acidic basslines woven together by the same solid groove her techno sets are known for
