THURSDAY JUNE 31ST AT PARALLEL

Over the past decade, Dekmantel Festival has become synonymous with electronic music’s most adventurous realms. While timeless sounds remain central, its multidisciplinary program is devoted to cutting-edge artists and adventurous sounds. Dekmantel Festival’s 11th edition takes place from July 30 to August 3, with over 150 acts representing the global electronic music expanse—from the festival grounds at the Amsterdamse Bos to the opening concert at Oude Kerk and the venues along the Amsterdam river Het IJ. The signature Thursday program on July 31st includes a special series of live performances and concerts at Muziekgebouw, Bimhuis, Parallel, Shelter and EYE Filmmuseum.

This year’s Aan Het IJ program brings British electronic pioneers Leftfield, who are joined on the Muziekgebouw concert hall bill by the equally influential and idiosyncratic dub duo The Orb. Next door, at Bimhuis, acclaimed British DJ/producer James Holden and Polish multi-instrumentalist Wacław Zimpel will take the stage alongside forward-thinking performers like Herbert & Momoko, Young Marco & John Moods, and Polygonia, who will present a live rendition of her forthcoming ‘Dream Horizons’ album. On the other side of the river, Parallel will host exclusive club shows by, among others, Danish avant-pop star Erika de Casier and Irish-Chilean experimentalist Sega Bodega. In the basement of Shelter, the big Thursday adventure wraps up with performances by Lenxi, Simo Cell & Abdullah Miniawy, Skee Mask, and more.

During the day, a short walk away at Eye Filmmuseum, the legendary Jeff Mills will present an extended live score for Fritz Lang’s 1927 expressionist masterpiece Metropolis. This show is part of the Dekmantel Festival conference and requires a separate entry ticket. Find the full breakdown & tickets on dekmantelfestival.com.

Erika de Casier

Shooting straight to the top of many 'Best Albums of 2024' lists, Erika de Casier's 'Still' sees the Danish singer, songwriter, and producer reaching an all-time high. Building on the cult following she earned with 2019's 'Essentials'—a modern classic of minimalist R&B—her latest release on 4AD features collaborators like Shygirl, Blood Orange, and They Hate Change, adding fresh layers to her endlessly inventive, contemporary sound. Over the years at Dekmantel, we’ve been enchanted by her ethereal artistry, inviting her back time and again, her presence growing only more captivating with each performance. For ’25, it’s sure to be no different, as Erika unleashes her dreamy, nostalgia-soaked, soft-spoken lyrics and sensual beats with unmatched finesse.

Sega Bodega

Over the past decade, Sega Bodega (real name: Salvador Navarrete) has been rerouting the intersection of dance music and experimental pop. As a producer, vocalist, and songwriter, the Irish-Chilean artist has become synonymous with distinctly digital-feeling tracks that are as dark and introspective as they are euphoric and club-ready. A co-founder of the NUXXE label, Sega Bodega has also played a key role in the rise of like-minded artists such as Coucou Chloe and SHYGIRL. And that’s not to mention his production credits on the works of Arca, Christine and the Queens, and Sevdaliza, amongst others. On ‘Dennis’, Sega Bodega’s latest
record (released on his own Ambient Tweets imprint), the artist dives deeper into the ghostly side of his universe, translating sleepless nights and a tormented sense of longing into dreamy, dazzling 21st-century ballads—all immaculately produced, as always. It’s no surprise that we’re thrilled about his Dekmantel debut.

Jack J (live)

Please welcome Jack J, a key figure in Vancouver’s music scene and creator of one of our favourite feel-good records of the past year. Also known as one half of Pender Street Steppers and co-founder of Mood Hut, the Australian-Canadian producer has expanded his repertoire from deep house to delicate new wave and chillout pop, all with a raw edge. On ‘Blue Desert’, his second album, J takes his bittersweet mix of sax-infused electronics and Erlend Øye-esque vocals to hazy new heights. We can’t wait to see it come to life, live at Dekmantel Festival ’25.

Wladimir M. & Bladegroen (live)

In 1991, cult hero Wladimir Manshanden, alongside fellow icon Stefan Robbers, founded one of the Netherlands' first techno labels: Eevo Lute Muzique. With a legacy spanning over three decades, Manshanden has recently embarked on a series of collaborative records, working together with Bladergroen—the moniker of Dutch electropop and analogue synth virtuoso Aafke Romeijn. On albums '2023' and '2024,' Manshanden presents his electro-poetry— spoken word tributes to the anthems of his youth, including Kraftwerk, New Order, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, and Depeche Mode. His monotone, entrancing voice guides listeners through a retro-futuristic journey, elevated by Bladergroen’s shimmering electronic textures. Not only is this their Dekmantel Festival debut, but it’s also the very first time the pair will perform live together, making it an extra-extra special affair.
